Are you aware that there is a mobile massage therapist that services our area?  Yes you heard correctly!  We are pleased to introduce you to Sarah Stevenson, a 2019 graduate from the Sutherland-Chan School of Massage Therapy. Sarah is a Registered Massage Therapist who also possesses a teaching degree and several years of teaching experience. She is very happy to be in her new career of massage therapy as she can combine her teaching background with her therapeutic skills. She employs a variety of massage styles including Swedish techniques, myofascial release techniques, and trigger point work. Sarah thoroughly enjoys lymphatic drainage for those with edema. Sarah enjoys helping her patients find relaxation in their daily lives, and looks forward to helping them achieve their goals to feel their best!

Sarah Stevenson is the Owner of Healing Touch Therapy and offers a very unique mobile service offering service right in the comfort of your own home. We love to get to know the owner behind the dream and passion at Lagoon City Life and we were thrilled to ask Sarah a few questions in our Community Spotlight.

When was Healing Touch Therapy first established and what made you open up your own mobile service?  Was it always a passion of yours?

I started Healing Touch Therapy at the end of December 2020 (great time to start a business, right in the middle of a Pandemic… and if that’s not enough… in the middle of a lock down!) I was working at a clinic at this time but had friends and family asking me to come to their place for treatments and I thought- why not! It’s always been my passion to help people and I’m so grateful to be able to do so! I left the clinic at the beginning of July this year and haven’t looked back ☺

Healing Touch Therapy says it all but is there any other kind of meaning behind the name of your business?

I have been told by a few people now that I have “healing hands” and without getting all teary-eyed, you have no idea how incredible those words make me feel. I have always thought this was a good name but when my clients said these words to me, before I really became a business… I knew I was doing what I’m meant to be doing.

What do you hope your clients gain from your mobile massage therapy?

A chance for a much needed break! Everyone’s working from home these days, maybe some were lucky enough to go back to work for some quiet! Working at the kitchen table (which is where I get my admin done, so I get it) is not ideal for the body. I hope to give my clients an hour to unwind, let go, stop working and receive some much needed, full-body wellness.

Can you walk me through a massage therapy visit.  Do you have to live in a large home with lots of space, what type of equipment do you bring and how does a client prepare for your visit?

Great question, this comes up a lot actually. You can be in any space which just adds to the convenience! I’m not saying it was easy but, I’ve worked on the back of a boat, small cottages and worked in replace of a coffee table! I can treat clients who are bedridden for whatever reason, in a chair… I make it work. I bring my massage table with me, linens, lotion and music. No real prep needed. Just be home when I arrive.

If you had to choose one, what is your favourite thing about offering mobile massage therapy?

Healing Touch Therapy

I love getting to travel around in my “Heal Mobile” and meet new people, see new places and learn to adapt to fun and challenging experiences. One time, I had a client I was treating in side-lying, while their two adorable little doggo’s laid snuggled behind their knees! I see so many pets which I love, but my Bernedoodle Daisy, does not- haha!

Where is the most unusual location you have ever been asked set up a table to perform a massage and how did you made it work if that someone was living in a small space?

I’m going to have to go with two. The back of a boat was for sure a challenge with space but I changed up my sequence to make the flow as smooth as possible. I had another one which was at a cottage and though I had space at the end, my table and linens met me on the dock while they travelled on this hand-made dumbwaiter! This was how they moved luggage because the stairs and rock face were narrow and tough to navigate even without all your stuff. It was so cool to experience.

What is your five-year plan for Healing Touch Therapy?

Another great one. I want to first buy a house, then turn the garage (sorry hunny) into my own, home practice. I will still offer mobile for a while and through summers but home practice, that’s the dream. Hopefully down the line I can bring in another RMT or even Physio to be able to offer more options for my clients.

What does Sarah like to do in her free time?

Free time? What is this? Haha- catching up on admin, writing treatment notes, all those fun things! I also love crafting, creating chocolate suckers, hot chocolate jars, gift bundles, and spending time with my little family. I’m hoping to combine my crafting skills in with my massage business, so stay tuned!

If you had any words of encouragement or advice for someone thinking of opening up their own business to follow their dreams, what would they be?

DO IT! Ask anyone who knows me… I have tried MANY things, I have failed MANY things but I will not quit. I never dreamed I could be my own boss, make my own hours and live the way that I wanted to. Here I am… doing what I love, with the love and support from all of my family, and all of my truly wonderful clients.

Sarah can’t wait to to help you on the road to a balanced life through her healing touch and has gained numerous clients in our area including me!  For more information on the services Sarah offers please visit her website at:  healingtouchrmt.ca and we also encourage you to follow her facebook page at:  HealingTouchRMT and to give her a follow on Instagram.
