Are you aware that a new business has arrived in Brechin that one does not simply walk into? Longbottom Leaf is owned and operated by the Kiriakou Family. Their legacy includes three generations of business owners and over 50 years of retail and education experience. Originally from the Kawartha area, The Kiriakou Family has owned multiple reputable businesses in the Kawarthas since 1976.

Longbottom Leaf aims to educate, utilize regulated products, and give their customers a safe place to purchase quality recreational cannabis. They believe in providing a socially responsible retail cannabis emporium to customers far and wide. We love to get to know the person behind the dream and are pleased to introduce you to Tom Kiriakou who is the Owner of Longbottom Leaf along with his Father and business partner Bill Kiriakou.

Longbottom

When did Longbottom Leaf open and can you give us a little bit of the history behind it.

The concept for Longbottom Leaf was first established in 2021. After two long years of work and dedication, Longbottom Leaf opened its door in March of 2023. Tom’s passion for the industry became a driving force behind Longbottom Leaf’s conception, and that passion is reflected in his store, quality products, and care for his customers. With the assistance of his father Bill Kiriakou, and Grandfather Tom Kiriakou Senior, the dream that was Longbottom Leaf became a reality.

If someone was interested in purchasing your product, what is the process?  Do you have to show identification and do you need to set up an appointment?

To enter Longbottom leaf, one simply needs to ring the doorbell, and one of their budtender’s will be there to let you in! Please have your ID ready at the door. Their staff are “highly trained” and knowledgeable about all their products! They also have a selection of tablets and showcases to browse at your leisure. Longbottom Leaf actively enforces ID checks, and the 30-gram possession limit. By doing so, they firmly prevent the sale, or re-sale of Cannabis to minors.

What is your favorite thing about owning a local business?

The community itself and the people in it. I get to meet so many wonderful people everyday, and being able to provide them with quality products they deserve makes me happy. I strongly believe that in this industry, our consumers are our most valuable source of information.

If you had any words of encouragement or advice for someone thinking of opening up their own business what would they be?

Don’t let yourself get in the way!

As a Cannabis Emporium, Longbottom Leaf offers a wide variety of products and accessories to fine tune your experience to your preferred method of consumption. Open 9am – 10pm, seven days a week. Stop in for a chat with one of their budtenders, and see their beautiful store!
