Lagoon City Life came across the Dragon Acres Instagram feed earlier this year and started following them right away.  I must admit, I was hooked with her feeds right from the start!  From growing unique varieties of produce to growing beautiful flowers, Dragon Acres is rocking it and we are thrilled to introduce you to the woman behind the passion and dream.

Dragon AcresRebecca and her family decided to move from the big city of Toronto to the small town of Brechin and we were thrilled to ask her a few questions to get a real sense of the accomplishments that she continues to achieve.  “We moved to Brechin last August and we absolutely love it here. My in-laws have been living here for the last 15 years so it has already felt like home. My parents moved to Orillia a week after we did and we are loving that we are all so close to each other. I also love that my dad lives so close and that we get to grow together.  We decided to move here to embrace nature on a 27 acre farm to roam freely and to live in a larger house.

Dragon Acres is a unique name.  Does it have meaning to you?

My husband was born the year of the Dragon. Dragons are enthusiastic, confident and willing to take risks.

Is this your first time living on a farm and if so, was this always a dream of yours?

This is our first year on this farm however I come from running community gardens in Toronto for the last 6 years.

You seem to have an overwhelming passion for culinary arts.  Where does this stem from?

I started loving unique varieties of produce when High Park Nurseries sponsored our gardens and provided us with culturally diverse seedlings in Toronto that I nurtured to fruition.

What is your long term goal for Dragon Acres?

Our goal for Dragon Acres is to keep evolving and to provide unique ingredients to restaurants and residents.

What is your favourite part of running a local business?

Creativity!

What does Rebecca like to do in her free time?

In my free time I source unique seeds, plan for the next crop and watch plants evolve. I’m so proud to say that I have made my hobby into my growing business.

If you had any words of encouragement or advice for anyone thinking about following their dream and passion by opening up a small business, what would they be?

I would say trust your gut and listen to your angel on your shoulder.  Know that in life there are no coincidences. Appreciate all the small victories and learn from everything and everyone around you.  If you don’t ask… you don’t get.  Go for it!

To get in touch with Dragon Acres, we encourage you to follow their growing farm on Instagram at: Dragon Acres and send a direct message through their Instagram Handle.

We can’t wait to see what else Dragon Acres produces in the future!
